Somague Concessões e Serviços, S.A., a sub-holding of the Somague Group for the area of concessions, was set up in October 1998. That was the launch year of the first road concessions - Lusoponte (Vasco da Gama and 25 de Abril Bridges - Lisbon) and Auto-Estradas do Atlântico.
Since January 2005, with the integration of Somague into the SyV Group, the activities of concession holders in Portugal has been coordinated by Somague Itínere. After the sale of Itínere, the Sacyr Vallehermoso Group continued to operate in the world infrastructure concessions market through Sacyr Concesiones.
In 2009, following the agreement signed with Citi Infrastructure Partners, LP, the sales of certain stakes that formed Itínere and which also included Somague Itínere were completed. Sacyr Vallehermoso maintained stakes in 25 concessions that were under construction or in a ramp-up phase and the remaining assets not involving motorways (service areas, intermodal transport hubs, airports and hospitals). They are grouped in the new Sacyr Concesiones, through which the SyV Group continues to operate in the infrastructure concession sector.
Somague Concessões S.A., a wholly owned subsidiary of Sacyr Concesiones, was set up on 10 December 2008.
This company acquired, in the context of the assets excluded a priori from sale of Somague Itínere, stakes that Somague Itínere had held in the Auto-Estradas do Marão concession holder (53%), as well as the 1% that Itínere Infraestruturas also held in it and also the existing 55% holding in Túnel do Marão Operadora. All these holdings were effective as of 16 June 2009.
The assets of Somague Concessões also include holdings in the PPP (vehicle created to bid in the area of Hospitals in conjunction with José de Mello Saúde and Edifer), a 25% holding in the company SMLN, the company holding the stake in the BRISAL Road Concession.
