Hydraulic works

Somague has over 60 years’ experience in the execution of hydraulic works (dams/power capacity increases and fluvial hydraulics), having started its activity with the construction of a dam.

Its experience in this area is not limited to Portuguese territory; the company has participated in international projects in Angola, Mozambique and Brazil.

Of note: the Castelo de Bode dam (Portugal) in 1951, the Limpopo Bridge (Mozambique) in 1957, the Cambambe dam (Angola) in 1961, the Bemposta dam (Portugal) in 1964, the Pocinho dam (Portugal) in 1983, the power capacity increase of Miranda do Douro (Portugal) in 1995, the Alqueva dam (Portugal) in 2003, the Venda Nova II power capacity increase (Portugal) in 2004, the integration channel between Castanhão and Fortaleza (Brazil) in 2008, the Bemposta Dam power capacity increase (Portugal) in 2011, the power capacity increase of the Venda Nova III hydroelectric power plant (Portugal) in 2015, the transposition of the São Francisco River (Brazil) in 2015 and, more recently, the Foz Tua Dam (Portugal) in 2016.

In order to carry out these projects, high-level own resources were used, in the fields of Engineering, Management and Production, and specialised personnel, together with a large fleet of heavy and floating equipment, which ensured the necessary resources to cover all applicable construction techniques, thus guaranteeing exceptional quality, a safe construction environment and enabling compliance with deadlines and customer satisfaction.
